The mother of incarnate God could not be held to the limitations of all human beings: that is to say, to original sin, to the tendencies of egotism and to the blurring of the image of God in them. For many centuries, the faithful knew this truth and in 1854 Pope Pius IX proclaimed it as a dogma of the faith. To all the faithful this is the confirmation of the definitive defeat of evil and of death.
