It's Cold!

Now that Winter has arrived, we try to take shelter and we bring out all our winter apparel. But many times we have also felt a cold in the soul, which is so much in need of love and is so thirsty for human warmth. Just walk around your neighborhood and you will see that in many occasions we see people walking by themselves, as if they were sleep walking, not seeing where they are stepping. It might not be that they are physically cold, but perhaps they feel the cold inside the soul, they are lonely, don’t speak with anyone, and they might feel they are not important to anyone. Be careful! We could be responsible for the way that person is feeling. Perhaps a smile or a greeting is enough to change their day.

Remember: we were created for love and we need love, affection, and understanding in order to be able to live. Jesus himself, feeling lonely on the Cross, exclaimed, “My God, why have you abandoned me?” We sometimes abandon our neighbors with the excuse that we don’t know them.

We are amazed when we hear news of people who commit suicide, and who don’t want to live any longer. Perhaps one of those persons approached us one day and we ignored him or her. Often, there is no need for material help: just a greeting might transmit human warmth.

Many times, those people who are lonely don’t ask for help out of fear of being rejected. And yet, we brag about how much we help our neighbors because perhaps last year we borrowed $10 to someone and we fail see the many people everyday who just ask for a smile.

We are told that Christians are full of love. Well, if that is true, we won’t be able to hide it because those who are full of life radiate it on his or her face and is eager to make it known.

Friend, brother, let us not hide or deny our love for people who are asking for it. Tomorrow might be too late.

Let us go out and let our face have a smile for everyone we encounter and we will realize that many people will change their perspective in life at least for that day. And who knows, perhaps God wants us to fill their hearts with joy.

May God bless our hearts and fill them with the Holy Spirit.
