They are the first saints from Vietnam who died martyred for their faith. They were a group of 117 martyrs who were canonized together. The group consisted of ninety six Vietnamese, eleven Spaniards, and ten French members. Eight of them were bishops, fifty priests, and fifty nine lay. Andrew, a Vietnamese priest, represents the entire group.
