November 6 – Théophane Vénard

A young French priest, wanted to be a missionary. His family was saddened to think that he would be far away, but with much pain, he decided it was his calling. Théophane went to Hong Kong, where he studied languages.  Then he left. Much was against him, Théophane was very ill, and the Vietnamese authorities were persecuting him. Finally Théophane was captured, but his gentleness conquered even the jailers. At his death, hundreds of people went out to the streets to soak their handkerchiefs with the martyr’s blood.

How many obstacles have you had to overcome to carry out what you believe to be your calling? How much difficulty did these obstacles brought?
