October 10 - Marytrs of Almería, Spain

Today we commemorate the martyrdom of 11 people, who although they did not all die on the same day, they died under the same circumstances. It was the beginning of the Spanish Civil War and they were all presented with the option of abandoning their faith or being executed.  Everyone died proclaiming Christ as the king. Although he did not die in Almería, one of these martyrs was Pedro Poveda, who wrote a beautiful prayer that could serve us today:

Lord, that I may think what you want me to think; That I may want what you want me to want; That I may do what you want me to do; That I may speak what you want me to speak. This is my only aspiration.
