September 30 - Saint Jerome

Jerome was Christian, but for an unknown reason, his father sent him to a pagan school. There Jerome became interested in the pagan literature and lost his love for God. However, through relationships with Christian friends, he returned to his faith. But Jerome was afraid that his interest in the pagan literature would once again separate him from God, so he left to the desert.  Even there he was tempted, but Jerome dedicated himself to prayer and studying the Bible. He wrote many books and defended the faith. Jerome was of strong character and this gained him many enemies. And yet, lived his life trying to serve Jesus in the best way he could and became a great saint.
