September 26 - North American Martyrs

They were eight missionaries of which five died in what is today known as Canada and three in the United States. They were Jesuit priests who brought faith to the northern most region of the continent. They endured great difficulties, built chapels and schools, studied the language of the Native Americans, and followed the tribes everywhere they went. Some tribes began to persecute them aggressively and in the span of seven years everyone was martyred.

Let us give thanks for the people who spread the faith enduring hardships, suffering, and personal sacrifices. Ask for the strength to do the same for others.
