September 22 - Saint Thomas of Villanova

Thomas learned from his mother to have unlimited generosity with the poor. At an early age, he wanted to dedicate his life to God’s things, studied theology, and became a Franciscan. He served as prior and eventually became provincial of the Order. In 1544 he was appointed archbishop of Valencia. Throughout his entire life he continued to live poor, giving away everything he had, including his furnishings, to feed the poor. While laying in his deathbed, he gave his bed to a poor person and died on the floor.

Which of your things would cost more to give up? What calls to generosity are you having?
