The devotional traditional of the church marks seven moments of great sorrow in the life of Mary: in the Presentation, where Simon announces that a sword would pierce his heart. The second sorrow is the flight into Egypt. The third is when Jesus is lost in the Temple in Jerusalem. The fourth was the start of the Passion, to see her son tortured with whips and crowned with thorns. The fifth was the crucifixion. The sixth, when they place Jesus’ body in her arms. And the seventh, Jesus’ burial.
Mary’s strength in all these moments gives us Christians the strength to confront our own difficulties and sorrows.
