July 21 - Saint Lawrence of Brindisi

He was a Franciscan capuchin priest of the 16th century, who had great knowledge of different languages and of the Bible. He was commissioned to convince the German princes to join in the Crusades to fight against the Turks who attempted to take the Holy Land. He did and the princes asked that he lead the expedition. When the soldiers were frightened from seeing the size of the large Turkish army, Lawrence led the army carrying only a Crucifix. The Christians were victorious. In 1602, Lawrence was named general superior of the Order. He wrote, preached, and spread the Gospel. He also made peace negotiations in different countries.
