Patrick was born in Great Britain, of Roman parents. When he was 16 years old, he was captured by pirates and taken to Ireland, where he was sold as a slave. His master dedicated him to shepherding. As he cared for the sheep, he would pray and his confidence in God gave him strength. Later he escaped from Ireland and became a priest, but he always felt he had to return to Ireland to preach the Good News. He went to Ireland as a bishop and it is said that his preaching drew many conversions. One of his most famous prayers was: Christ over me. Christ on my right hand. Christ on my left hand.
