March 17 – Saint Patrick

Patrick was born in Great Britain, of Roman parents. When he was 16 years old, he was captured by pirates and taken to Ireland, where he was sold as a slave. His master dedicated him to shepherding. As he cared for the sheep, he would pray and his confidence in God gave him strength. Later he escaped from Ireland and became a priest, but he always felt he had to return to Ireland to preach the Good News. He went to Ireland as a bishop and it is said that his preaching drew many conversions. One of his most famous prayers was: Christ over me. Christ on my right hand. Christ on my left hand. Christ on this side. Christ on that side…
