He was impressed by a passage of saint Paul that says that this world, as we know it, is passing. So he decided to give his life to what is truly lasting. He entered a Benedictine abbey but he was soon appointed bishop, which was not his preference, but he obeyed. There was a politician in the state taking money from the church to finance his wars and Eucherius challenged him. That earned him prison, where his kindness made the guardians love him. Seeing how well Eucherius was liked, the politician had no choice but allow the bishop leave the prison and return to his abbey.
