February 12 – Saint Meletius

He was a bishop of the 4th century. There were many persecutions and Meletius had to also fight against heresies and other difficulties. He was a patient and loving bishop. But often had to go into hiding, away from persecution. In the year 381, the first Council of Constaninople was called and Meletius led the sessions, but died soon after the opening of the council. Saint Gregory spoke at his funeral and commented on Meletius serenity, his smile and his friendliness with others. He was a bishop who loved Christ very much. That is the way the people saw him as and loved him the same.
