December 23 – Saint John Kanty

He is a Polish saint from the 14th century. He was a very intelligent young man who was sent to the University of Craiova. He became a good priest, teacher and preacher. John was also famous for his great love for the poor. His fame brought him much jealousy from some people who had plotted to have him sent to another parish. John did all he could, but the people did not want him. At the end, his efforts worked so well that by the time they sent him back to the university, the parishioners liked him. Back at Craiova, he became a very popular professor. They gave him many gifts, but he would always give them away to the poor.

What profession do you feel is your vocation? Do you separate from the fame and popularity to the simplicity and generosity of giving everything to the poor?
