Dominic was a Spanish shepherd who, amid the silence of the mountain while caring for the sheep, had a very personal encounter with God. He became a monk and soon Dominic’s wisdom was recognized and he was appointed abbot. But the King of Navarre decided that the grounds where the monastery was located belonged to him and exiled the monks. They went to Castile, where King Ferdinand received them and gave them an abandoned monastery, which the monks renovated.
