December 17 – Saint Olympias

She was from Constantinople and became an orphan at a young age. They handed her over to a very kind Christian woman to care for her. She had a great fortune and her uncle married her to Nebridio, who was the governor of Constantinople. After the death of Nebridio, the emperor encouraged her to remarry, but she wanted to remain faithful to the memory of her husband and dedicated the rest of her life, with a group of female friends, to charity work. They opened an orphanage and a chapel. They helped many. But also had to suffer persecution and were forced to leave their charity work. But Olympias received all this with great patience and dignity. She died in 408, at the age of 40.

The Saint Olympias' generosity touched many lives. What can you offer others today?
