Lucy was from Syracuse, Sicily. Her parents were rich, but when her father died, Lucy promised never to marry and lived her life entirely dedicated to Jesus Christ. But she had been promised in marriage and when her fiancé learned that Lucy did not wish to marry, he was outraged, denounced her as a Christian, and succeeded in getting her arrested and tortured.
