He is one of the most famous monks from Palestine, of the 5th Century. His father was a military man and when he had to go on an expedition, he left Sabas with an aunt, who would mistreat him. Sabas escaped and went to live with another uncle. But the two uncles argued and Sabas then went to the monastery. His uncles then went to look for him, regretful, but by that time, Sabas had already found happiness at the monastery. Sabas worked in Egypt in the monastery and even though they tried to convince him to return home and enjoy the same honors as his father, Sabas always followed what he felt to be his vocation.
