He is a saint from the 16th century who while studying at the University of Paris met Ignatius of Loyola and joined the Society of Jesus which Ignatius had recently founded. At the age of 34, Francis was sent as a missionary to India. He preached in India and in Japan and was able to convert many. Many lay followed him like apostles their towns.  He had wanted to travel to China, but died before entering the continent. He was 46 years old. He is patron of the missions.
