He was the son of an Italian farmer who had died at a very young age. When Anthony was only fifteen, he asked to enter the Franciscan Order. Anthony worked with prisoners and attended to the poor families of the area. In Lucera, he was known as a saint and image of Saint Francis of Assisi.
