His father was an Italian farmer and died when Francis was a young boy. His stepfather treated Francis well and procured that he be educated in a monastery. When he was 15 years old, Francis was admitted as a friar. He studied greatly, was ordained a priest, and became a famous preacher and teacher. Blessed Francis Anthony cared for prisoners and for the poorest of the city.
