Son of an Italian Count, Charles studied in the university and at first people thought he was slow, because he was not a good speaker. Charles was very humble and had a spirit of prayer. He was ordained a priest and later archbishop of Milan. Charles was a great role model for virtue in his town. He gave a lot of money to the poor and never saved any for himself. When a plague hit the city, Charles went out and took care of the sick and the poor. He built altars in the streets so that the sick could attend Mass from their windows.
Have you ever been too busy to care for someone poor, alone or sick?
