Born in Lima in 1579, Martin was a son of a Spaniard Nobel and a freed slave. His father abandoned them. Because of the color of his skin, he suffered much discrimination and rejection. Nevertheless, his heart was always open and generous to everyone. He cured many, established a hospital, and was a friend to everyone, no matter their skin color. After his death, all of Lima poured to the funeral and proclaimed him a saint before the church had.
