Evaristus was a young Jew from the 2nd century, who lived in Bethlehem. He was older when he converted and was so in love with his faith that he decided to become a priest. After the Pope was martyred, he was elected and although he resisted because he felt unworthy, he was named Pope. During his papacy, the number of believers grew in a great manner, but in the end St. Evaristus was captured. The jailers were marveled at the joy in the elderly man’s face, who felt privileged to die and suffer for Christ.
