October 20 - Saint Paul of the Cross

Born in Italy in the 17th century, Paul belonged to a family of merchants and, just like so many other young people, became a soldier. But one year later he decided to leave the army. He started feeling strong calls to an intense spiritual life and consulted with his bishop regarding what that might mean for him. The bishop helped him to follow the call he so strongly felt and, ten years later, Paul founded the Congregation of the Passion, known as Passionists. In addition to the three traditional vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience, he asked his followers to make a fourth vow of devotion to the Passion of Jesus.

What call are you feeling inside? Do you trust that call to come from God? Are you afraid?
