She was the youngest of five sisters and the two oldest had become Carmelite nuns, and she resolved to join them. Since she was far too young, she had to ask for a special permission and did not stop until she reached Pope Leon XIII. Theresa died when she was still young, but in her short life in the convent she wrote her spiritual autobiography, which has helped many in their spiritual paths. Although she never left the convent, she is patroness of the Missions, due to her great love and prayer to them. She is a doctor of the Church.
