September 27. Saint Vincent of Paul
His autobiographical notes tell that he sometimes was ashamed of his father, a poor peasant, poorly dressed and a little lame who had made all sorts of sacrifices to provide Vincent with a good education. Vincent was a clever young man whose aspiration was to become a bishop and make a comfortable and luxurious life for himself. But an experience with a dying man called him to conversion. He turned to God radically and realized that he could not love Christ without loving the poor. He founded the Congregation of the Mission (known today as Vincentians).
Are you grateful for the sacrifices of your parents to give you a better life? Have you ever felt ashamed of the origins of your parents? What are your dreams for the future?
