September 16 - Saint Cornelius and Saint Cyprian

Cornelius was the pope after Saint Fabian, in a time where the Church was strongly persecuted. Cyprian was a bishop and would encourage the pope by reminding him that no Christian had abjured from their faith during the persecution. Cornelius died exiled. For having suffered so much for the faith and for the Church, he is considered a martyr. Cyprian was martyred five years later, during the persecution under Valerian.
