August 20 – Saint Bernard

He had many brothers and sisters and received an excellent education in France, in the 11th century. When Bernard’s mother died, he became depressed, but his sister Humbelina was able to pull him out of his sadness and converted him into a intelligent, enjoyable young man full of life.  One fine day, Bernard surprised his family telling them he had decided to join a Cistercian Monastery. They all tried to convince him otherwise, but in the end he had convinced his brothers, an uncle and twenty-seven friends to join him. Bernard preached, dealt with political leaders in search of reconciliation in conflicts, and wrote many books on spirituality. He was a great influence in the Church during his time. Bernard had a great devotion to the Virgin.

Are you capable of convincing others to do good things?
