Born in an aristocratic family, St. Jane Frances de Chantal fell in love and married Baron Christopher de Chantal. They were very happy and had several children. When the baron died, Jane was completely devastated and went to live with her father-in-law, who was a harsh and bitter man. She was deeply affected when she heard St. Francis of Sales preach. He later became her spiritual director and encouraged Jane to change her life and follow Christ as a religious. St. Jane Frances de Chantal founded the Congregation of the Visitation.
