August 14 - Saint Maximilian Kolbe

He was a Franciscan of Polish descent who edited a publication dedicated to the Virgin. He was arrested by the Nazis and taken to a concentration camp. When a prisoner was to be executed for someone who had escaped, Maximilian offered his life in exchange for the man who was a father. The trade-out was accepted and Maximilian was taken to a cell to die of starvation.

Have you ever helped a stranger simply because he was a human being enduring difficulties? Did it mean a personal sacrifice?
