July 15 - Saint Bonaventure

Bonaventure was one of the first Franciscan Friars. He went to study in France and became a great spiritual writer. He was a great friend of St. Thomas Aquinas, who asked Bonaventure what inspired the beautiful things he wrote. Bonaventure pointed to the cross. He was an archbishop and was named cardinal in spite of Bonaventure’s resistance to occupy an appointment that appeared to be an honor.
“If you are asked how things can be better, seek the answer in the grace of God, not in doctrine; in the desire of will, not in the understanding; in prayer, not in investigation.” St. Bonaventure.

Do you seek help in the cross when you have a difficulty? How has the cross inspired you?
