July 12 - Saint John Gualbert

John’s brother was murdered, and encouraged by his father, he sought revenge for the murder. On Good Friday, John met the murderer and drew his sword to kill him. The murderer begged for forgiveness and John forgave him. When he departed for the monastery, his father threatened to burn it down if John did not come out. When John cut his hair and took his habit, his father reconsidered and impressed, allowed him to stay. Later John began his own monastery and dedicated his life to caring for the poor and giving advice to those in need.

What things are impossible for you to forgive? Have you felt greater freedom when you have been able to forgive?
