May 24 – Saint Susanna

Susanna was a young roman, and niece to Pope San Caius. The Diocletian emperor was looking for a wife for his stepson Maximian, and chose Susanna. She told him she had consecrated herself to Christ. Her attitude kind but firm convinced the messenger, who was being taught to accept the Christian faith along with his family. The emperor then send his brother Maximus, who decided to speak of the matter to his brother Claudius (the first messenger, his brother Gabino, Susanna’s father and Caius, the pope). The four decided that they had to respect Susanna’s vocation. When the emperor was told of Susanna’s decision and the conversion of Maximus and Claudius, he ordered for them to be executed.
