The mother of Emperor Constantine, who had converted to Christianity when she had a vision of the cross, made a pilgrimage to the Holy Land to find the cross of Jesus. In the site she ordered excavated, three crosses were found. St. Helena built a church on that site. The feast of Veracruz has been held since the 7th century.
