Anselm was the son of a wealthy Italian, who was very ambitious and a friend of lavishness. He had great ambitions for his son, but his wife taught Anselm the faith first. She died while he was still very young and his father continued Anselm’s education. In the end, the young man could no longer endure it and left home to enter a monastery. It was not too long before he was named abbot and dedicated himself to serving everyone. He wrote, taught classes and was one of the most important intellectual figures of his time. Anselm had to confront the king to defend the church and he did so with kindness and courage.
When you have to defend something that is very important to you, do you do it aggressively or do you know how to approach people with gentleness?
