April 17 - Saint Kateri Tekakwitha

She was the daughter of a warrior from the Mohawk tribe. As a child she got chicken pox and the illness disfigured her face. She converted to Catholicism in her teens and this drew great hostility from her tribe. Kateri Tekakwitha was devoted, simply, to caring for the sick and elderly. She was very devoted to the Eucharist. St. Kateri Tekakwitha is the patroness of Native American Catholics.
