April 4 - Saint Benedict the Moor

Benedict was the son of African slaves who lived in Sicily.  When Benedict was born, the master gave them their freedom. He entered St. Mary’s Convent near Palermo at a very young age and since he could not read or write, he was assigned to work in the kitchen. He was so special that despite being a lay person and illiterate, he was elected superior of the monastery. After holding other positions, he asked to be relieved of his post and returned to the kitchen, where he really wanted to be.

What type of preparation do you need for the service that God has called you to perform? How do you seek it?
