March 14 - Saint Mathilda

She was a princess, the daughter of Theodoricus and Reinhilda. She was educated at a monastery until she was married to Henry, the Duke of Saxon, who was later elected Emperor of Germany. They had five children together and Mathilda educated them in a deep faith and discipleship. He helped the poor, took care of the sick, and visited the people in prison. Her husband joined her in her faith and the two of them built a reign of justice in their land. One of their sons was saint Bruno, Archbishop of Cologne. When Henry died, Mathilda continued his work, but two of her sons turned against her. Later on, however, they saw they had been wrong and asked for her forgiveness.

In which ways do you think the family can be a good school of faith? How have you been helped by the faith of your parents?
