He lived in the 4th century. The story goes that he belonged to a wealthy family but, for some reason, he suffered a lot and realized that his happiness could only be with God. He became a priest and was later ordained a bishop in Armenia. When the governor of the state started to persecute Christians, Blaise was arrested and, while he was being taken to prison, a young mother came with his child who was choking on a fish spine. Apparently, Blaise cured the child and since then he has been considered a protector against throat illnesses. There are people who believe that the problems are not so much with whatever is in the throat as with what comes out of the throat…that really needs healing.
