January 12 - Saint Marguerite Bourgeoys
At a very young age, this French young lady from the 17th century had to care for her younger siblings after her mother’s death. When the children had all grown up, Marguerite began to ask herself what she would do with her life. In Canada, they needed teachers and, leaving behind her inheritance, Marguerite left to Montreal. She began to build chapel in 1657 near Montreal. Later she opened her first school. She traveled to France in search of help and returned with four companions. Later she recruited another six. They were the first sisters of the Notre Dame Congregation.
They opened a vocational school. They opened missions and soon more sisters joined. Do you have an open spirit to start new things if you see there is a need? Do you dare to take risks you believe are necessary for your mission?
